I just finished watching the entirety of Strangers With Candy (TV show starring Amy Sedaris, Stephen Colbert, Paul Dinello, and Mitch Rouse). I have never procrastinated so much in my life, and it feels awesome.
If you want to check it out, you can watch all the episodes for free online here: www.free-tv-video-online.info/internet/s trangers_with_candy/
Alrighty then, back to essays!

Gonna rant here:
gdi my roommate left cuz she thought our floor was too loud, though she did end up on what is apparently the most noisy floor in another building, so I guess that's my little revenge on her for leaving. Seriously babe, can't get what ya want all the time. Also, ngl, I'm like the perfect roommate: quiet, clean, gone from Thursday night to Monday morning every week, and we both got along super well so I'm just surprised she actually left.
Oy. And the new roommate is nice, soft spoken but she seems to be pretty social; luckily she hasn't been bringing over many people to our room so I'm cool with that. Though her side of the room is covered in posters and stuff like that; don't really mind but it makes the room look messier.
Came back this morning to find wrappers and bottles behind her desk and the overwhelming smell of unwashed laundry. We have four garbage bins in our room. One of mine is bright green from Ikea, she has her own black one from the school. Me and Fatima (previous roomie) put paper in one of the extras, plastic in the other. Should've told the new roommate this, as I came back with all three overflowing with unsorted garbage, plus some in mine as well. AHHHH lady look in the bins! There is clearly only bottles in one and paper in the other!!
Plus I think she's using my hand towel for herself to. Hands off!
Perhaps I'm griping for no reason, idk, but I like cleanliess and I'm too used to Fatima (I miss youuuuuu!)
Anything else going on? Saw Sherlock Homes (AWESOME!) and...think that's it.
/end rant

aaaagh I thought my Human Rights exam was this morning at 9:00 so I woke up at 6:30, studied, was all ready to go and went to the Fieldhouse where it was taking place. Saw the seating plans, noticed the human rights course code wasn't on it, asked a lady who was working there, and she said that if it's not on the sheet it wasn't at that time. Run back to the dorm room, and find out that it's actually at 2:00.
OMG
Why does my brain do this to me??? Why did I think it was at 9:00??
Fuck this happens all the time. I remember a few years ago I thought I heard on the radio that Our Lady Peace was having a concert in May so I asked my mom if I could go. She said yes, asked me to find the ticket info and I couldn't find any information about the concert anywhere. Finally looked on their website, turns out that they were broken up or something (last update was like in 2005 - maybe they're back together now, idk) but still oh my god my brain is an idiot.
hurrrrrr....well, at least I'm all studied up for it. :/
Maybe I'll watch D9 again.

Hmm. So my roommate at Uni is moving out.
And it's totally not because of me! At least probably not, unless she's like super good at hiding her annoyance with me. It is, however, because she's getting fed up with the noise on our floor. Which to be honest is kind of...well, we're all first years. Obviously there's going to be noise. And this is supposed to be the quiet floor, so if she has a problem with it she could legitimately complain to our Rez Fellow, but I guess she doesn't want to...? IDK.
People tend to be loud in the wee hours of the morning, though usually only later in the week and on weekends (which is when I'm back home, so maybe I'm missing out on true hell or something), and one of the girls with whom our room is right beside and share the bathroom with tends to take showers at like 10:30 (I know I know, not that late, we're early to bed, early to rise people) and sing and play music really loudly for about an hour. Still though. I just don't know why she hasn't, y'know, asked her to stop. They're nice girls, they'd do it.
I like her a lot too (my roommate, I mean), we have a lot in common and she's really involved in politics so I learn about current events that I don't keep up with from her. It's just that she needs to actually take a stand, or ask people to quiet down, or SOMETHING. She's renting an apartment and will be gone next term, and I don't really want to deal with another roommate, whom I'm assuming I won't get along with as well (and I was thinking that maybe no one else would move in but apparently if no one takes your place you still need to pay the rent on the room?? I'm not quite clear on the details, myself).
Maybe it's me being selfish, but I just don't like it. I just want to tell her to suck it up. :/

Just started watching Arrested Development last week (yes I know I'm ridiculously late to the party) and ahhh! I love it so much and it's actually one of the few shows where I love all the characters. Especially Lindsey and Gob (GOB? do I capitalize all the letters or what).
eeeeeee
Also! Ah, Christmas is coming, I love the atmosphere that comes with it. Unfortunately it's barely snowed around here and while I'd like a warm Christmas I don't want a green one.
(also I love Cameroon's design so much ajhkfga hnnnnngh I'll be drawing him soon enough)

Guess who passed their Russian exam with...well, not exactly flying colours, but still an 82%?? YEAAAAAAAAAHHHHH ME THAT'S WHO
Yes, I'm just a bit pleased with myself, I only studied the day of and was super nervous about it.
And I got a C+ on my Canadian History Essay (it was on the French vs the English in their colonization of Canada) which is perfectly acceptable because I finished it 10 minutes before it was due. : l Yeah, don't ever do that, it's a terrible idea.
And just as a random...gift, I guess? I've uploaded an album by the band Mark Berube and the Patriotic Few. They're currently based out of Montreal, I think. It's called, "What the Boat Gave the River" and is a companion to their previous album, though I haven't listened to it yet.
Download it here: www.mediafire.com/
Very acoustic sounding, natural I guess, and the lyrics really stand out. Fave songs on it are We Go Down, Flowers on the Stones, and Shiny Plastic Bags/Barbershop Part 2 (On this last one, especially, listen closely the whole way through; he'll start talking a few minutes into it and it might sound a bit pretentious at first but what he's saying is just...I don't know, I want to say deep but it just flows together perfectly).
Yes, I thinks that's all?

And there is quite a lot.
In other news, saw The Men Who Stare at Goats (that weird one with George Clooney) and it was actually really good! I'd heard some not so great reviews about it but I was pleasantly surprised. It was pretty funny, not always laugh out loud but overall very clever, and kept your interest the whole way through. Looked it up on wiki later and most of the stuff that went on actually happened so that's pretty cool (and if you don't know what it's about, it's basically Cloony and Ewan McGregor reminiscing about Clooney's days back in the 80's when he was some sort of psychic soldier). Not sure how long it's going to be run in theaters, so see it if you can.
( And onwards )

Well, that was quite a ride yesterday, eh? I've never really had lj friends before, haha...ha.
And since you all don't really know me (obviously), figured I'd fill out this little jem. Also because I'm terrible talking about myself.
And I should probably do an lj cut but I feel like being a rebel.
You know how sometimes people on your friendslist post about stuff going on in their life, and all of a sudden you think "Wait a minute? Since when were they working THERE? Since when were they dating HIM/HER? Since when???" And then you wonder how you could have missed all that seemingly pretty standard information, but somehow you feel too ashamed to ask for clarification because it seems like info you should already know? It happens to all of us sometimes.

First Name
Carrie. Not that interesting, but apparently my parents named me after a character off of a show, and the actress who played her went to my highschool way back when. Weird.
Age
18.
Location
Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. So hey, if you live nearby chat me up and we can hang out sometime.
Occupation
I clean this guy's house every weekend for three hours. However! I'll get a "real job" (aka working at McDonald's) this summer.
Partner
Nada and not looking.
Kids
Don't want any, but I don't really hate them or anything. I just feel incredibly awkward around 'em. Which is pretty bad because I've got a niece who's like one and a half years old and so I've got to change my ways soon, I guess.
Brothers/Sisters
Two older sisters. One who is 21 and away at University but she's pretty much my best friend (which is sad but handy at the same time). The other is my half-sister, who's in her late 20's (I...I forget, lol). She's married, works as a photographer and is the mother of that niece I was talking about.
Pets
Two cats! Heidi and Rocky. Both are pretty old, Heidi being the elder. She's kind of bitch. The other one is fat and fucking adorable. And soft! I also have a dog, a shiba inu, named Cody. He's pretty stupid but lovable.

-University! I'm going to go on a bit of an info spree right now: I'm taking European and Russian Studies (I'm in first year) and it has about four people in the program, but it's pretty interdisciplinary so it doesn't really matter. Later courses are going to get pretty small though. Courses are Europe in the 20th Century, Economics (RAGE), Canadian History, Human Rights, and Russian. The first two were the only one's required, plus any language. It's pretty cool. :)
-Exams! Only have three, but my Russian one is an oral interview thing on Wednesday so that's kinda nerve wracking. The other two are in a few weeks so I've got time to worry about that later.
-Christmas shopping! I have no idea what to get anyone, and they really don't know what to get me. We've pretty much given up on the whole "surprise" thing so we just give each other lists each year, haha. I barely know what to ask for though...yesterday I mentioned I wanted a biography of Frederick the Great (just finished the one by Gerhard Ritter, was awesome but pretty small so I'd like one with more details) and they now think that I'm a freak. -_-'
-er...Driving and finding a job and looking for an apartment next year? IDK, I'll worry about those after winter.
-The Internet! I am a sad and lonely person.
Parents
My dad's in the military and my mom's a cook. They're alright, though most of the time my dad really irritates me. I don't know why, guess our personalities don't mesh or some such thing.
And so! That's that. Can't think of much else, but please, if you have any questions or just want to chat? Comment or send me a message or something, I've got nothing else to do today.

Just watched Valkyrie last night. Not an "OMFG MOST AMAZING THING EVER!!!" kind of movie, but it was plenty better than I thought it would be. After reading about it, it's nice to see the faces matched to the players. Unfortunately, Tom Cruise, I felt, was a bit bland but the rest of the actors worked out quite well. I'm glad they didn't try to do German accents...that would've turned out pretty awful, I think.
Ah, and I just finished reading "Inside the Third Reich", by Albert Speer. And although some parts were boring (economics...*yawn*) that's just my personal taste, and the rest of it is absolutely fascinating. If you've ever wanted to get a good insight on basically everything that went on, from one of the key players in the whole thing, read it.
And to commemorate that...the usual sketches, some of which are referenced from that book.
( How incalculable the consequences were! )

So guess how crook partied it up on Friday night? How about sitting outside in the cold and wind for more than three hours. Faaa... I thought I had Cappies that night, which is a theatre review program, so my mom drove me to the show. As I was walking away, I heard her call pull out because she was going shopping. Now, we've done this before, and usually it takes about four hours for the whole thing to be finished (basically, I get there at 6:45 PM, meet up with other Cappies members, talk a bit, watch the show, talk during intermission, watch the second half, and talk for another 45 minutes about how we're going to review it and stuff). So, she's going to be gone for a long while. So I walk in there, expecting to see all those signs that say "Cappies members go this way" except that there weren't any, and the lady tells me that it's tomorrow night (the play was on tonight too, but not to be reviewed). FUCK MY LIFE. I had to walk out (I was too embarrassed/prideful to stay inside) and ended up sitting on a bench counting cars and doodling. I tallied 100 cars that went by then got bored, plus about 20 rolling stops until I realized everyone did it anyways. 4 buses too. Anyways, long story short, my mom pulled in the parking lot at 9:40. *cries* I was so cold. Fucking spring jacket. Fucking T-Shirt.
She felt bad for me so she got me some Mc. D's but still: holy crap, night wasted or what?
Moral of the story, kids: Double-check the timings.

So, the most unusual thing happened today. I got asked by a boy to go to the prom with him.
And hell, reading this you might think, "Lucky!" But hell no, not lucky. The guy is someone I'm mildly friends with; I don't hang out with him or anything, but we talk because our lockers are right next to each other and sometimes I lend him my pen. So, fine and all. And whenever he asked, I'm all shocked and not on the ball or anything and this was completely out of the blue, so all I say is: "Uh, fine! Sure." Which is pretty stupid, because:
-I hadn't planned on going with anyone
-I didn't want to go with anyone
-I'm not sure what his intentions are; later I asked him by the locker if didn't he already have a girlfriend? (I though I heard him talking about it a few months ago, but...) no, he didn't. Then I quickly said, "So we'll just be going as friends, right?" And he gave a few quick nods and "Yeah, definitely," but wouldn't everyone say that? Guy's not that honest.
-If he did actually plan it for friends only, thank god, and also, fuck. Because he mentioned about getting a table with a few others, and these are people that I a). only talk to because they happen to be in my class, and b). are people I don't, and probably won't, like. Plus, I wanted to sit with my close friends.
-If he did intend it for romantic purposes, sucks to be him, and it's going to be hella awkward for me; I haven't had a crush on a guy since grade 7, and proud of it - seriously, I am pretty much forcing myself to become asexual.
So, either way:
FUCK MY LIFE.
But on the plus side I did get sixty bucks in cash. ;D (from my boss, not him...)

So my birthday was actually on the 11th, but...
Anyways! I got some good stuff, mainly because I told my parents exactly what to get me.
Kuruizaka no Hana vol. 4, Loveless vol. 6, A Writer at War by Vasily Grossman and The War by Ken (or Kevin, or something-K...) Burns. Lots of nice pictures in those last two (well, as nice as people killing each other can be, really...). And my Sansa mp3 player thing died a few days before so I got a Zune as well - program was hella confusing at first until my sister told me how to use it. My god I'm stupid. It is quite good though, so highly recommended.
And I watched Revolutionary Road tonight. Holy crap, the acting! So tense, and everything else was perfect as well.

So, I saw Watchmen the other day. Very good, highly recommended, though it is a bit awkward to watch the sex scenes with your parents right next to you.
It is strange, though...there is nothing wrong with the movie, it's filmed very well, special effects are great, so is the story...but I found myself not getting very into it. Like when I watched Wall-E, I couldn't force myself to care about the characters very much. Perhaps it's just me...?
Anyways! More art, because who actually works through class? Not me!
( And so I said... )
